I've been getting a message flash up on the screen that the drivers need updating since I downloaded VCDS 908.0. There is a message about driver updating on the Ross Tech web site, but it doesn't say anything about this: If I go into Start/Control Panel/Add or remove programs (XP Professional), it lists Driver pack for VCDS 805 and Driver pack for VCDS 908. Nothing in Ross Tech about deleting 805 drivers.

Software

Is the laptop using the 805 drivers in preference to the 908 ones that were downloaded at the end of the software install? And if so, do all traces of the 805 software and drivers need to be manually removed from the laptop? There's a mention of this on the RT site somewhere- some of the old drivers got an incorrect version numberOriginally Posted by USB Driver Versioning Problem: The USB drivers shipped with Release 805 reported an incorrect version -- much higher than it should have been. When you install the new drivers that come with this Beta, Windows will probably complain that they are older than the ones which are already installed. You must answer 'Yes' when asked if you want to replace the files anyway. Previous versions of VCDS will also complain that the new drivers are outdated. This can and should be ignored.

Done this, and all it's done is add the new drivers and not deleted the old ones in the add/programs list. And I'm thinking it's because the old ones are still there that I'm still getting the update message. Even though I've updated, it seems the old drivers still in the computer are being used in preference to the new ones:confused: And thanks Stu, will do as you suggest and will e-mail Uwe at Ross Tech.

Will post my email and reply in this thread. Edited 3 September, 2009 by mikeholroyd.

OK, now I'm really confused. Uninstalled all previous releases and betas of VCDS that had accumulated on the laptop, and also deleted both driver sets (labelled 805 and 908) from the program add/delete.

Re-downloaded release 908 from Ross Tech, and it went through the install as normal, and then installed the drivers. I then plugged the laptop into the car (microCAN), and pressed the TEST BUTTON. Everything was OK, the CAN was recognised without any problem. Then it came up again that the driver base was out of date, and should be renewed. Data is showed was: Current drivers 03.01.18 / 00.04.00 Latest drivers 03.01.18 / 02.04.18 THEN -- checked the driver database on program add/remove -- and it's only got 03.01.18 / 02.04.18 installed! THE LATEST ONES!

So, it appears that VCDS is not recognising that these are in fact the latest drivers. Will be relaying this info to Ross Tech in a minute. Mike Please help! MicroCAN serial number ********************************************* On powering up my laptop a couple of days ago, I got the message showing on screen that VCDS 908.0 was available over the version 907 that I have been using. I downloaded the 908.0 as requested, and tried it on the car (Skoda Octavia 1Z0 chassis), and was greeted with another message telling me that the drivers were outdated and needed updating.

On checking in the add/remove programs from the control panel (Windows XP Professional, SP3), there was listed driver packs for VCDS 805 and also VCDS 908. I deleted both these driver packs, and also uninstalled all previous versions of VCDS that were on the laptop. The laptop was then restarted. I then re-downloaded release 908.0 from Ross Tech, and it went through the install as normal, and then installed the drivers.
